About the African Writers Conference
AWC 2025 - Maseru, Lesotho
Building on the success of the 2024 edition in Kigali, Rwanda, where discussions focused on the role of children’s literature in shaping young minds, the 2025 conference will expand the conversation to the power of African storytelling in uniting diverse cultures and equipping creatives for the global literary landscape. The event will feature panel discussions, creative writing workshops, book exhibitions, networking sessions, and cultural performances, providing a platform for African voices to engage in meaningful dialogue.

October 22
Arrivals
Participants arrive in Kigali for the African Writers Conference, and connect with fellow writers, creating a sense of community.
October 23
City Tour
Venue: Makuza Peace Plaza, KN 48 Street, Kigali
Time: 9am

The city tour will enable the attendees to explore local culture in Rwanda, gain inspiration from the environment, interact with residents, and discover unique stories that can enrich their narratives.
October 24
Writers Mingle 7
Venue: Goethe Institut Kigali
Time: 5pm

The Writers Mingle is a 90-minute interactive session which includes a diverse panel of creatives from various African countries. They will discuss the theme: Nurturing Young Leaders: The Power of Storytelling in African Children’s Literature.

The Conference Day of the African Writers Conference is a day of engaging sessions, including a keynote speech, panel discussions, presentations and entertainment. The conference culminates with the announcement of the winners of the African Writers Awards.

Picnic/Departure
Venue: Nyandungu Eco Tourism Park, 24VW+Q4, Kigali
Time: 11am

The picnic provides a peaceful environment for writers to enjoy food and beverages, and to network. This is followed by the departure which concludes the African Writers Conference in Kigali, Rwanda.
